Proposal Number: PRN 2002-344
Proposal Summary:
The New Jersey State Board of Dentistry proposes to amend rules
concerning the scope of practice for licensed dental hygienists and
registered dental assistants. Specifically, the rule would allow dental
hygienists and dental assistants working under the direct supervision of
licensed dentists to monitor patients who have been administered nitrous
oxide/oxygen inhalation analgesia provided that the hygienist or dental
assistant has completed a board-approved course in nitrous oxide/oxygen
inhalation analgesia offered in a college or university clinical or
hospital setting. The amendment would also establish duties of a
licensed supervising dentist.
