NEWARK - A Passaic County chiropractor charged with sexually assaulting a patient agreed today to a voluntary suspension of his license pending the outcome of criminal proceedings against him, Attorney General Peter C. Harvey and Consumer Affairs Director Reni Erdos announced.
Gregory S. Trentacosta, D.C., agreed to the suspension of his license by the State Board of Chiropractic Examiners after the State filed an administrative complaint against him. The Board was prepared to hold a hearing, during which the State would have sought the temporary suspension of Dr. Trentacosta's license, if he had not agreed to the suspension of his license.
Dr. Trentacosta has been charged with sexually assaulting a patient in his office in December 2003. Dr. Trentacosta's practice, Innate Chiropractic Care, is located at 1341 Hamburg Turnpike, Suite L-3, in Wayne.
Under the agreement, Dr. Trentacosta will cease practice on February 4. Effective immediately, he must have a Board-approved chaperone present whenever he treats a female patient through February 4.
"We filed an administrative complaint against this chiropractor because of the serious nature of the charge against him," Attorney General Harvey said. "Through this license suspension, we have achieved our objective of protecting patients from harm."
"We allege that standards of professional conduct were violated and the bounds of common human decency were ignored by Dr. Trentacosta," Director Erdos said. "The Board will consider further action following completion of the criminal proceedings."
"We are obligated to protect the public's health, safety and welfare. In this case, that means removal of this individual from the practice of chiropractic medicine," said First Assistant Attorney General Edward M. Neafsey.
Deputy Attorney General Siobhan B. Krier of the Division of Law is representing the State in this matter.
