Eric T. Kanefsky

Eric T. Kanefsky became Acting Director of the N.J. Division of Consumer Affairs on April 16, 2012.
A resident of Tenafly, N.J., he worked for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of New Jersey, in Newark, immediately prior to his appointment as Acting Director. He served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Special Prosecutions (public corruption) Division and in the Violent Crimes Unit beginning in December 2008.
Prior to his public service, Kanefsky worked in private practice for law firms in New York City and Philadelphia. While in private practice, he primarily investigated and prosecuted securities class actions on behalf of some of the largest public pension funds in the U.S. Through these litigations, he helped defrauded investors recover hundreds of millions of dollars in settlements.
Kanefsky is a graduate of the James E. Beasley School of Law at Temple University in Philadelphia, where he served as an editor for the Temple Law Review. He received a B.A. in Criminal Justice from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He was admitted to practice law in New Jersey in 2002.
Kanefsky, 34 at the time of his appointment, is married and has two children.
