Intervening to stop an imminent threat to public safety and health, the Acting Director of the Division of Consumer Affairs on April 27, 2011 signed an order that makes it a crime to manufacture, distribute, sell, or possess designer drugs labeled as "bath salts."
The order adds the drugs to New Jersey?s Controlled Dangerous Substances Act as Schedule I CDS, subjecting them to the strictest level of State control. Manufacture, distribution, sale, or possession is now a third-degree crime resulting in fines of up to $25,000 and three- to five-years imprisonment.
UPDATE: The Acting Director will hold a PUBLIC HEARING at 10 am, July 11, 2011, a necessary step toward enacting a regulation to make the ban permanent. The hearing will be held in the Monmouth Conference Room, 7th Floor, 124 Halsey Street, Newark, NJ 07101.
